As soon as I heard about this project I knew it was going to be difficult. I started with my skin which I think was the hardest part to do. Trying to figure out where shadows or bright areas were was hard. Next I moved onto my shirt which was pretty basic. I was wearing a gray sweatshirt in the original picture but changed it to be a plan kind of teal sweater. I like the simplicity of my shirt because I'm not a very exotic person. Then I moved onto the background and lastly my hair. For the background I did one side of skies and the other a very big sunflower. I chose one side to be different skies because they are peaceful and calming which is something I would like to have in life. Another reason why I chose skies was because everywhere you go the sky will look different and I'd like to travel someday and see how different the sky really can be. I did the other side a sunflower because they are beautiful and bright but also because one of the meanings a sunflower signifies is loyalty. Lastly I added the devil horns. I added those because they represent the wild side of me. Although I want calmness and peacefulness, I would hate for my life to be boring. I love doing new and exciting things. Even if it gets me into trouble or not.
Portraits to me can not change your perception of others, although some people may think so. Such as someone may look at my portrait and see my devil horns and perceive it as I’m a bad person. You won’t always see what was supposed to be represented but it doesn’t mean you should judge it in the wrong way. In a portrait people can add and take away parts of the original piece. They can make it to represent different things and make it how they want it unlike a picture where once its taken that's the finished piece. There can be so much value added to a portrait to make it unique and special. Such as I made myself have some curly strands of hair even though my hair is completely straight. |
